Portfolio Project 3: Engaging Stakeholders
Project Title: Engaging Stakeholders: A Microlearning Approach to Building Buy-in
Client: eLearning Challenge
Challenge:
We were presented with a unique challenge: create a compelling 5-minute learning bite that showcased our creativity and addressed one of four pre-selected topics. We chose the critical topic of "Engaging Stakeholders," a challenge faced by organisations across all sectors. The goal was to design a microlearning module that was not only informative but also engaging and memorable, demonstrating our ability to deliver impactful learning experiences in a concise format.
Solution:
We embraced this challenge as an opportunity to demonstrate our innovative approach to instructional design, applying the principles of Cathy Moore's Action Mapping to create a branched scenario that immersed learners in real-world situations.
Here's how we did it:
- Business Goal: The overarching business goal was to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively engage stakeholders and build buy-in for projects and initiatives.
- Target Actions: We identified the key actions that individuals need to take to engage stakeholders successfully. This included:
- Identifying key stakeholders.
- Understanding stakeholder needs and concerns.
- Tailoring communication to different stakeholder groups.
- Building rapport and trust.
- Addressing resistance and resolving conflict.
- Action-Oriented Design: We developed a branched scenario that presented learners with realistic challenges related to stakeholder engagement. Each decision point in the scenario required learners to apply the target actions and experience the consequences of their choices.
- Microlearning Format: The entire learning experience was designed to be completed in under 5 minutes, making it easily digestible and accessible for busy professionals.
- Creativity and Engagement: We incorporated interactive elements, compelling visuals, and a branching narrative to create an immersive and memorable learning experience.
Results:
This project demonstrated our ability to:
- Design and develop engaging microlearning modules.
- Apply Action Mapping principles to create action-oriented learning experiences.
- Use branching scenarios to enhance learner engagement and decision-making skills.
- Deliver impactful training within tight time constraints.
